German traveler Alex Welder recently shared his positive experience with India’s metro system on social media, expressing his admiration for the cleanliness, efficiency, and overall quality of metro services in cities like Delhi and Agra. In a video posted on Instagram, Welder revealed his surprise at how India’s metro system surpassed his expectations, especially in comparison to metro systems in Western Europe. He commended the modern infrastructure, seamless operations, and affordability of the metro services, claiming that they are not only comparable to European systems but, in some cases, even better.
Welder particularly highlighted features in the Delhi Metro, such as phone charging points, designated seats for women, and platform screen doors, drawing comparisons to metro systems in countries like South Korea, Japan, and China. He confessed that before visiting India, he had stereotypical expectations of overcrowded buses and noisy tuk-tuks. However, he was pleasantly surprised to find that cities like Delhi and Agra offer a highly efficient and organized metro system.
Sharing his personal commuting experience in Delhi, Welder noted that he rarely had difficulty finding a seat, especially if he avoided rush hours and tourist-heavy areas. He also appreciated the wide variety of food and shopping options available at metro stations.
Welder’s video has sparked a discussion online, with users praising India’s metro and comparing it favorably to those in cities like London. Some pointed out how travel content rarely highlights metro systems in India, focusing instead on the chaotic road traffic.
