Fresh details emerging from the police investigation into the deaths of three minor sisters in Ghaziabad suggest that prolonged family conflict, fear and emotional distress may have played a central role, even as authorities continue to examine all possible angles.
The sisters — Nishika (16), Prachi (14) and Pakhi (12) — died after jumping from the ninth floor of their apartment on the night of February 3. Initial speculation around online gaming has not been substantiated so far, police said.
Scolding triggered emotional distress
According to investigators, tension escalated after the girls’ father, Chetan Kumar, scolded the eldest daughter Nishika over mobile phone use on the evening of the incident. Police statements indicate that Nishika was deeply upset, refused dinner and remained withdrawn with her younger sisters.
Chetan reportedly confiscated Nishika’s phone and argued with his wives over parenting issues. Police said the girls were frightened by his anger and the repeated confrontations in the household.
Later that night, Nishika was given a mobile phone by her mother, and the three sisters lay together in their room. Investigators believe they were emotionally overwhelmed following the scolding and domestic discord.
Sequence of events
Police said that around 1 am, the three sisters got up under the pretext of drinking water and went to another room. Shortly after, they locked the door from inside. Family members realised something was wrong when the girls did not respond, but by the time they reached the spot, the sisters had fallen from the building.
A neighbour told police he witnessed the fall in the early hours of the morning.
Forensic checks and official visit
Deputy Commissioner of Police Nimish Patil said multiple mobile phones linked to the family have been recovered and sent for forensic analysis to check for deleted data or external influence.
The Uttar Pradesh State Women’s Commission chairperson Babita Chauhan visited the residence on February 7, where police conducted a detailed inspection.
Police stressed that the investigation is ongoing and urged restraint, saying conclusions will be drawn only after all evidence is examined
