A 20-year-old commerce student allegedly took her own life by jumping from a 14-storey tower in Dadar on Tuesday night, authorities reported. Preliminary inquiries suggest she had been struggling emotionally after a close male companion declined her romantic confession.

The young woman, enrolled in a South Mumbai college, resided with her parents. Her father is a businessman.

According to a police officer, she had harbored feelings for a male friend for a while. However, when she finally gathered the courage to express them, he gently refused, stating he considered her only as a friend.

Matters worsened when she later discovered he was in love with someone else. This revelation reportedly deepened her sorrow, pushing her into a state of despair.

On Tuesday evening, around 9:30 PM, two male friends visited her in an attempt to comfort her. Shockingly, in their presence, she took the extreme step. The shaken friends immediately alerted her parents, who rushed her to a nearby hospital. Sadly, doctors pronounced her dead on arrival.

One of the two friends, still reeling from the trauma, managed to provide his statement to the police. The other remains in a state of shock, delaying further investigation.

Authorities continue their probe while urging young individuals to seek help for emotional distress.
