Panipat: A Haryana man was arrested while allegedly attempting to flee to Delhi after police accused him of murdering his uncle in Punjab and his friend in Haryana within a span of a few hours. Investigators said the accused, identified as Sahil Malik, allegedly shot both victims, transported their bodies in a vehicle and later abandoned them near a canal before being intercepted by a police team in Sonipat.

According to Haryana Police, the shocking sequence of events began on Wednesday when Sahil Malik, a resident of Model Town in Panipat, allegedly shot dead his uncle Rahul Malik in the Derabassi area of Punjab. Officials said the accused reportedly kept the victim’s body inside his car and drove away from the scene.

Police said that after leaving Punjab, Sahil travelled to Panipat in Haryana, approximately 140 kilometres away. There, he allegedly contacted his friend Ankush and picked him up from Sector-13/17 Chowk. Investigators claim that Sahil later shot Ankush inside the vehicle near the Panipat Sabzi Mandi area.

Bodies allegedly dumped near canal

After the two killings, the accused allegedly transported both bodies and disposed of them near the Siwah canal area in Panipat. Police said efforts are underway to recover the bodies and gather additional evidence linked to the case.

The movement of the accused across two states within a short period has added complexity to the investigation. Authorities are coordinating with police teams in both Punjab and Haryana to reconstruct the timeline of events and determine the circumstances surrounding the alleged murders.

Officials said forensic teams and investigators are examining the vehicle used by the accused and other material evidence that may help establish the sequence of the crimes.

Arrest made while fleeing towards Delhi

Police said Sahil Malik attempted to escape towards Delhi after allegedly dumping the bodies. However, a joint operation involving the Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) Unit and Murthal Police Station led to his arrest.

The accused was intercepted at a special checkpoint established at the Bhigan toll plaza in Sonipat. Following his arrest, he was handed over to CIA-1 Panipat for detailed questioning.

Investigators are now interrogating the accused to determine the exact motive behind the killings. At present, police have not disclosed any specific reason for the alleged murders, stating that multiple angles are being examined.

Motive remains under investigation

Authorities have indicated that the motive behind the crime remains unclear. Investigators are exploring the nature of the accused’s relationship with both victims and whether any personal, financial or family disputes may have played a role.

The alleged murder of a close relative and a friend within such a short period has raised several questions for investigators. Police are expected to analyse call records, digital evidence and witness statements to understand what led to the incidents.

Senior police officials said the investigation remains active and further details will be revealed once questioning of the accused progresses and evidence is verified.

Haryana Police reiterates tough stance on crime

Following the arrest, Haryana Director General of Police Ajay Singhal reiterated the state’s commitment to tackling serious crimes and ensuring public safety.

He stated that law enforcement agencies would continue to use all available resources to identify, track and apprehend individuals involved in criminal activities. The police chief emphasised that criminals would not be allowed to evade justice and assured full institutional support for the ongoing investigation.

The case has drawn attention due to the alleged involvement of two murders across state borders within a single day. As investigators continue their probe, authorities are focusing on establishing the motive, recovering the bodies and compiling evidence for legal proceedings against the accused.

Conclusion

The arrest of Sahil Malik has brought a swift breakthrough in a case involving two alleged murders spanning Punjab and Haryana. While police have successfully detained the accused, the motive behind the killings remains unknown. Investigators are now working to uncover the circumstances that led to the deaths and complete the evidence-gathering process.
