Haryana man sparks debate with viral divorce party celebration

India’s wedding season is known for its extravagant celebrations, but what happens when the celebrations turn to sorrow? Divorce, traditionally a private matter in India, is starting to be celebrated in a way that has gained popularity in some parts of the world. Recently, a man from Haryana made headlines by hosting a viral divorce party, which has generated mixed reactions across social media.

Manjeet, a resident of Haryana, married Komal in 2020, but after three years, their marriage ended in divorce. Instead of keeping the separation private, Manjeet chose to mark the occasion with a grand event. The party included a poster with the couple’s wedding photo and dates of both their marriage and divorce. Multiple cakes were cut during the celebration, and Manjeet was seen enjoying the moment of “freedom.”

The party took an unusual turn when a mannequin, allegedly representing his ex-wife, was included. Manjeet posed with the mannequin, which sparked intense discussion online. The video from the event went viral, leading to a mix of shock, amusement, and contemplation from viewers.

While some found the celebration empowering and saw it as a bold new step in life, others criticized it as disrespectful to the sanctity of marriage. Many expressed mixed feelings about the cultural shift in India, with one user commenting, “India is changing, for better or worse, who knows? But this is certainly new.”
