For a Gurgaon Zomato customer, it was difficult to comprehend that a dish that was prepared 500 kilometers away in Lucknow could be delivered fresh and hot to their door in a matter of minutes. The 24-year-old Sourav Mall has questioned the veracity of the food delivery app’s fast service guarantee under the “Legend”

Mall has filed a lawsuit challenging Zomato’s “Legends” policy, which offers food delivery in a short amount of time from a number of cities, including Bengaluru, Chennai, Agra, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Lucknow, Jaipur, and Mathura.s’ category after he was nearly taken aback to learn that a kebab dish had been delivered from Lucknow in just thirty minutes.

After going through the petition, the local court in Saket last month issued a summons to Zomato.

Mall had placed an order for four dishes from the Zomato Legends sub-service. One of these dishes was from Lucknow, but the other three were from Delhi. The items that were ordered were Galouti Kebab from Lucknow, Veg Sandwich from Jangpura, Triple Chocolate Cheesecake from Kailash Colony, and Chicken Kabab Roll from Jama Masjid.

Mall, who was defended by advocates Tishampati Sen, Anurag Anand, and Biyanka Bhatia, it is evident that the food is being stored at different Zomato locations rather than being transported from the specific city.

A dish being prepared 500 kilometres away in Lucknow getting served at your doorstep fresh and hot in a matter of minutes – this was something that was hard to digest for a Zomato customer in Gurgaon. Sourav Mall, 24, has questioned the validation of the food delivery app’s rapid service promise under ‘Legends’ category after he was almost shocked to get a kebab dish delivered all the way from Lucknow in just 30 minutes.

Mall has recently filed a suit against Zomato’s ‘Legends’ policy of delivering food from across a section of cities such as Kolkata, Hyderabad, Lucknow, Jaipur, Bengaluru, Mathura, Chennai and Agra at a very short span of time irrespective of the distance.

After going through the petition, the local court in Saket last month issued a summons to Zomato.

Mall had ordered four dishes from the sub service called Zomato Legends. While three of these dishes were from Delhi, one was from Lucknow. The items ordered were ‘Chicken Kabab Roll’ from Jama Masjid, ‘Triple Chocolate Cheesecake’ from Kailash Colony, ‘Veg Sandwich’ from Jangpura and ‘Galouti Kebab’ from Lucknow.

Mall, who was represented by advocates Tishampati Sen, Anurag Anand and Biyanka Bhatia it clearly shows that the food is not actually being transported from the particular city, but it was being stored at various places/warehouses of Zomato.

Additionally, Sourav said that Zomato’s packaging—rather than the restaurant partner’s—was used to deliver the food. Additionally, the paper bag that featured “Zomato Legends” claimed to be “freshly prepared,” “travels using mobile refrigeration technology,” “not frozen,” and “no preservatives added.”

Customers were being misled, according to the malls’ attorneys.

In just 29 minutes, food ordered from Jaipur would be delivered to Gurgaon, according to The Indian Express, who tested the service out.

The ‘Legends’ order, according to Zomato’s blog in 2022, will arrive the following day, though.

“By leveraging Zomato’s vast network of restaurant partners and delivery partners, deep understanding of food technology, and insights into what our customers love, legendary dishes will be delivered from across India to you, the very next day,” it says.
