A 52-year-old head constable posted in Punjab’s Muktsar district died of a suspected cardiac arrest while on duty during an early-morning anti-crime operation on Monday, police officials said.

Collapsed while heading for raid

The deceased has been identified as Lakhbir Singh, a head constable posted at Bariwala police station. He was part of a police team heading to conduct a raid in Warring village as part of Operation Prahaar II, the second phase of the Punjab Police’s intensified drive against organised crime.

According to officials, Lakhbir Singh was travelling with the raiding party when he complained of uneasiness around 5.30 am. He was immediately taken to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead. Police suspect cardiac arrest as the cause of death, though confirmation will come only after the post-mortem examination.

Part of major anti-crime drive

Operation Prahaar II is part of the broader “Gangstran Te Vaar” campaign launched by the Punjab Police to curb criminal networks and gang-related activities across the state. Senior officers are personally supervising raids and enforcement actions under the operation.

Police sources said Lakhbir Singh was a known diabetic, and his health condition may have contributed to the sudden medical emergency.

Senior officers express condolences

Deputy Inspector General Sanjeev Kumar and Muktsar Senior Superintendent of Police Abhimanyu Rana, who are overseeing Operation Prahaar II in the district, termed the incident unfortunate and expressed their condolences to the bereaved family.

Lakhbir Singh was a resident of Kaoni village in Muktsar district and is remembered by colleagues as a committed officer who continued to serve actively despite health challenges.

Duty-related health concerns highlighted

The incident has once again highlighted the physical and mental strain faced by police personnel during intensive operations, especially during early-morning raids and prolonged duty hours. Officials said all procedural formalities are being completed, and the department will extend due support to the constable’s family.
