New Delhi: Heavy rain continued to lash Delhi-NCR on Tuesday, a day after torrential downpours caused widespread waterlogging, traffic congestion and major disruption across the capital region.
The intense rainfall prompted authorities in Gurgaon to ask corporate offices, government departments and private educational institutions to adopt work-from-home and remote-learning arrangements on Tuesday. The move was aimed at reducing traffic and allowing civic agencies to carry out drainage, de-watering and road restoration work.
Roads flooded after heavy rain
Several major roads and junctions across Delhi were badly affected after Monday’s downpour. Areas including Mathura Road, Connaught Place, ITO, Bhairon Marg and Zakhira reported significant waterlogging, while commuters faced long traffic jams and difficult journeys.
Some areas recorded substantial rainfall, with Janakpuri receiving about 67 mm and Chhatarpur 57 mm by Monday afternoon. The weather department had also warned of thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds.
More rain expected
The India Meteorological Department issued an orange alert for heavy rainfall in Delhi on Tuesday morning, with further rain and thunderstorms possible across the region in the coming days.
The continued rainfall has once again highlighted the challenges faced by Delhi-NCR during intense monsoon spells. With roads flooded and traffic severely affected, authorities are encouraging institutions and residents to minimise unnecessary travel where possible.
For thousands of employees and students, working and studying from home has become a temporary measure to stay safe while civic agencies work to clear waterlogged roads and restore normal movement.
