Heavy rain lashes Delhi-NCR, waterlogging in many areas

Heavy Rain

Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) experienced continuous rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, starting early Friday morning.

On Thursday, heavy rainfall in parts of Delhi provided much-needed relief from the intense heat.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted the weather for Delhi over the next seven days, predicting generally cloudy skies with varying intensities of rain and gusty winds.

For June 28, the IMD predicts light to moderate rain or thunderstorms, with temperatures similar to the previous day and wind speeds reaching up to 35 km/h.

On June 29, the weather is expected to be slightly cooler, with a high of 36°C and a low of 28°C. Light to moderate rain or thunderstorms are likely, with wind speeds of 30-40 km/h. On June 30, temperatures are forecasted to drop further to 34°C, with moderate to heavy rain and gusty winds.

For July 1 and 2, the IMD forecasts thunderstorms with moderate rain, maintaining temperatures at a high of 34°C and a low of 27°C. Wind speeds will vary between 25-35 km/h.

These weather conditions are expected to cause minor traffic disruptions and increase the risk of vehicle accidents due to water accumulation on roads. Residents are advised to check traffic conditions before traveling and avoid waterlogged areas.

The IMD also stated on Thursday that conditions are favorable for the further advance of the southwest monsoon into additional parts of North India, as heatwave conditions have subsided across the country.

Over the next two to three days, conditions are expected to support the advance of the southwest monsoon into more parts of Rajasthan, the remaining areas of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar, further regions of Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Chandigarh, parts of Haryana, more areas of Punjab, and the remaining regions of Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu.
