Hemant Soren Granted Bail in Money Laundering Case

Hemant Soren

Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, who was arrested in January on charges related to a money laundering case, has been granted bail by the High Court. The Enforcement Directorate, which arrested Mr. Soren, accused him of orchestrating a scheme involving fictitious transactions and forged documents to acquire a large plot of land valued at several crore rupees.

Mr. Soren resigned from his position as Chief Minister on January 31, shortly after facing extensive questioning by the ED, who then informed him of his impending arrest. Notably, Mr. Soren opted to resign before accepting the arrest memo, reportedly to avoid becoming the first sitting Chief Minister to be arrested.

The allegations against Mr. Soren involve the illegal acquisition of 8.86 acres of land in Ranchi.
