Hyderabad: A 23-year-old hotel worker from Uttar Pradesh has been arrested in Hyderabad for allegedly maintaining contact with suspected extremist operatives and sharing suspicious content on social media, police officials said. Authorities stated that the arrest followed an investigation initiated after the accused reportedly came under scrutiny for online activity that raised security concerns.

Officials said the accused, identified as Zaid Khan, had been employed at a hotel in Hyderabad and was allegedly being monitored by intelligence agencies after certain social media posts attracted attention.

Police added that the investigation remains ongoing and further enquiries are being conducted regarding his online activity and contacts.

Social media activity reportedly triggered investigation

According to investigators, suspicion arose after the accused allegedly uploaded Instagram reels featuring imitation firearms.

Officials stated that the content prompted intelligence agencies to conduct a detailed examination of his digital activities and online interactions.

Police sources said investigators reviewed his communication patterns and online associations as part of a broader enquiry.

Authorities indicated that the initial findings led investigators to examine whether there were links with individuals already under surveillance.

Investigators examining alleged contacts

During the course of the investigation, officials reportedly found that the accused had allegedly been in communication with individuals identified as Habib and Rana Hussain.

Police sources stated that the individuals were suspected of having links with extremist networks.

Investigators reportedly traced multiple voice calls and online chats during the enquiry process.

Authorities said the communication records are currently being examined to determine the nature and extent of the alleged interactions.

Fake pistols seized during investigation

Acting on intelligence inputs, police detained the accused and later placed him under arrest.

Officials stated that during searches, investigators recovered two imitation pistols allegedly used in the social media videos.

Police said the seized items and digital devices have been taken for further examination.

Authorities added that digital records, social media content and communication data are being analysed as part of the investigation.

Probe continues into possible links

Police said the investigation is focused on understanding the nature of the accused’s contacts and whether any attempts at radicalisation or recruitment were involved.

Officials have not announced any additional arrests in connection with the case so far.

Authorities stated that legal action and further steps will depend on evidence gathered during the continuing investigation.

Police emphasised that enquiries are ongoing and additional details are expected after completion of digital and forensic analysis.
