Rain lashed parts of Mumbai on Saturday evening, bringing relief from heat.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert predicting heavy rainfall across several regions in the coming days. Kerala, coastal and south interior Karnataka, Konkan, Goa, and Madhya Maharashtra are expected to receive significant rainfall. A red alert has been issued for Karnataka and Kerala, with IMD warning of thunderstorms, lightning, and strong surface winds in isolated areas.
In Kerala, a red alert has been issued for Mallapuram district, while seven other districts have been placed under an orange alert, as reported by ANI. According to IMD, Kerala and Mahe are likely to experience isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall from June 22 to 23, and widespread rainfall from June 24 to 26, 2024.
IMD further predicts fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall for Marathwada, Mahe, and the Lakshadweep regions.
For Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, Rayalaseema, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal, IMD forecasts scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall over the next five days. Additionally, an orange alert has been issued for Odisha.
In the northeastern states including Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, widespread light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds is expected over the next five days.
IMD has also predicted heatwave conditions in isolated pockets of West Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi between June 22 to 25 for West UP and June 24 to 25 for the other areas.
Furthermore, IMD anticipates the monsoon to reach Delhi-NCR by June 30th, as announced on Wednesday.
