Madurai District Collector K.J. Praveen Kumar has directed leaders of three dormant political outfits to appear before the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) and the Government Secretary at the Chennai Secretariat no later than August 26.
This move comes in response to a communication from the Election Commission of India, which has raised concerns over the extended inactivity of these unrecognised political entities.
The parties in question—Anaithindiya Forward Block (Subashist), Anaithindiya Moovendar Munnani Kazhagam, and Anaithu Makkal Needi Katchi—have remained absent from the electoral scene since 2019, failing to contest any elections in the past six years.
Citing electoral regulations, the Collector emphasized that it is mandatory for the party heads to personally meet the CEO and provide a formal justification for their continued dormancy.
Such action is typically a precursor to possible deregistration or loss of party recognition if the parties fail to justify their operational status or intent to remain active in the democratic process.
This development reflects the Election Commission’s tightening scrutiny on registered but non-functional political groups, aiming to maintain the integrity of the electoral register and eliminate inactive players from the system.
With the deadline approaching, all eyes are on whether these parties will respond and revive their political presence—or quietly exit the stage.
