The Indian government has taken action by suspending access to Pakistan‘s official Twitter account following the tragic terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22, which left 26 tourists dead and 20 others injured. The assault took place in the popular Baisaran Valley, a well-known tourist spot, where armed assailants opened fire on a group of visitors. The Resistance Front (TRF), an affiliate of Lashkar-e-Taiba, claimed responsibility for the attack, prompting widespread condemnation from both political leaders and the public.

A notification on Pakistan’s Twitter account reads, “Account Withheld, @GovtofPakistan has been withheld in IN in response to a legal demand.” This isn’t the first instance of India withholding the account; it was previously blocked in March 2023, and again in July and October 2022. According to Twitter’s Help Center, account withholding is usually carried out in compliance with local laws, and the decision is based on legal requirements from specific jurisdictions.

In the wake of the attack, India has implemented a series of measures. The Ministry of External Affairs suspended the Indus Waters Treaty indefinitely, demanding Pakistan end its support for cross-border terrorism. Additionally, the Attari land-transit point was closed, and Pakistani nationals will no longer be able to travel to India under the SAARC visa exemption scheme.

Expressing their shock and grief, former Snapdeal CEO Kunal Bahl and Boat CEO Aman Gupta shared their sorrow on social media, reflecting the profound impact of the incident.
