Pakistan has claimed it possesses “reliable intelligence” suggesting that India is preparing to initiate a military offensive against it within the next 24 to 36 hours. Islamabad issued a stern warning that any such move by New Delhi could unleash “devastating” repercussions across the region and beyond.
Information Minister Attaullah Tarar accused India of gearing up for action based on “false and fabricated claims” linking Pakistan to the recent terror strike in Pahalgam that left 26 people dead. He said India was acting as “prosecutor, judge, and executioner” — a stance Pakistan rejects outright.
Pakistan, presenting itself as a responsible global actor, proposed an impartial investigation by an international panel to uncover the truth behind the Pahalgam tragedy. Tarar emphasized that his country has also endured the horrors of terrorism and remains committed to peace.
Reaffirming its determination to protect national sovereignty, Pakistan called upon the global community to recognize the dangers of further escalation, squarely placing the burden of consequences on India.
This strong response followed Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s directive to military leaders, granting them “full tactical autonomy” in responding to the terror strike. Sources indicated Modi is resolute about bringing the attackers to justice, vowing to chase them “to the ends of the earth.”
India has since implemented a series of punitive steps: it has expelled Pakistani defence officials, halted the 1960 Indus Water Treaty, cancelled Pakistani visas, and sealed the Attari border crossing. Cross-border shelling along the LoC persisted for a sixth straight day on Tuesday.
