Indian chocolate has been making its mark globally, and a recent milestone has further solidified its place on the world stage. Kochi-based farm-to-bar brand Paul and Mike won India’s first Gold at the prestigious International Chocolate Awards 2024. The brand clinched the top honor in the ‘Milk Chocolate Enrobed Whole Fruit’ category with its unique creation, Milk Chocolate Coated Salted Capers.
This innovative product blends Lilliput capers from the arid lands of Tuticorin with premium cacao sourced from the lush Western Ghats. The capers, with their olive-like appearance and a tangy, lemony flavor, complement the rich milk chocolate, offering a delightful balance of umami, saltiness, acidity, and sweetness.
The creation of this product was a three-year collaboration with Ishka Farms, where capers are handpicked and processed daily to preserve their unique flavor. The salt used comes from Tuticorin’s mineral-rich salt pans. This thoughtful approach ensures both quality and sustainability in every bite.
Reflecting on this remarkable achievement, Vikas Temani, Head of Business at Paul and Mike, said, “Winning Gold at the International Chocolate Awards is a dream come true. This recognition puts Indian chocolate on the global map, showcasing our dedication to the finest ingredients and pushing the boundaries of chocolate-making.”
Previously, Paul and Mike made waves with their Gin & Ginger Chocolate, which achieved a top 10 position in the World Finals of the International Chocolate Awards 2023. Known for its ethical farm-to-bar production, the brand works closely with farmers in Kerala, Coimbatore, and Andhra Pradesh to cultivate and source cacao beans.
This Gold win not only celebrates the potential of Indian ingredients but also affirms that Indian chocolate-making is ready to shine globally, with the brand already winning accolades at the Great Taste Awards and Academy of Chocolate Awards.
