An Indian-origin resident in Epping, Melbourne, has reported finding racist and hateful notes scattered across the front yard of his home, leaving his family distressed and concerned for their safety.
The anonymous man said he discovered the notes while cleaning his car. The messages reportedly read “Go back to India” and “Die Nazi”. He later shared photographs of the notes on a local Facebook community page to alert neighbours, stating that racism and hate had no place in their suburb.
“I really don’t understand the point of it,” he told local media, adding that there was no apparent reason for the incident.
Family left shaken
The man, who moved to Australia about a decade ago, lives with his newborn, toddler and elderly family members. He said the incident deeply unsettled them, especially as they were unsure whether the act was specifically targeted.
“That night we didn’t go out for our usual walk. I didn’t feel safe leaving my children at home,” he said, adding that he now checks outside each morning to ensure nothing further has occurred.
He also expressed concern that his family might have been singled out, as they are reportedly the only Indian family in the immediate area.
Similar incidents reported
According to media reports, several others commented online about finding similar notes in nearby areas. One individual claiming to be a council worker said they had discovered comparable messages in a public garden bed near a civic centre.
The matter was reported to police. While one station reportedly indicated limited action due to lack of property damage, another assured the family that the complaint would be taken seriously.
The man clarified that he shared the incident not for sympathy, but to raise awareness and encourage the community to remain vigilant and supportive of one another.
