Balasubramanian Chithambaram, a project engineer in Singapore, has become a millionaire overnight, winning over Rs 8 crore (US$1 million) in a lucky draw. His life-changing prize comes just three months after purchasing a gold chain for his wife, a gesture that turned into an extraordinary event.

The win, announced on November 24, 2024, came through a lucky draw organized by Mustafa Jewellery. Customers who spent S$250 or more were eligible, and Chithambaram’s purchase of S$6,000 worth of gold ornaments earned him a chance at the grand prize.

Emotionally overwhelmed, Chithambaram said, “I couldn’t believe it. Today is my father’s fourth death anniversary. This win feels like a blessing.” He plans to share the good news with his mother and donate part of his winnings to the Singapore community as a gesture of gratitude for his years of work there.

Chithambaram’s win is a beautiful tribute to his wife, with their thoughtful purchase of the gold chain leading to their unexpected fortune. His story is reminiscent of another lucky win in Malaysia, where Cheng, encouraged by his wife’s suggestion, won RM3 million (approximately S$900,000) in a lottery draw.

Chithambaram’s win is part of a larger celebration at Mustafa Jewellery, where several other customers also took home smaller prizes, including US$5,000 in monthly draws.
