Infosys has said that Lax Gopisetty, chief of its subsidiary Infosys Public Services, is currently not reachable following devastating flash floods in Nepal.
Gopisetty was visiting the region in a personal capacity when contact with him was lost, the Bengaluru-headquartered IT services company said. Infosys said its immediate priority was to ensure his safety and well-being.
Infosys works to establish contact
The company said it is working with relevant agencies to gather information and establish contact with Gopisetty.
Infosys is also maintaining close communication with his family and providing all necessary support during the difficult period.
The company expressed deep sadness over the loss of lives caused by the floods and said its thoughts were with Gopisetty and everyone affected by the disaster.
Hundreds of Indians affected
The disappearance comes amid a wider humanitarian crisis following the devastating floods along the Nepal-Tibet border.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, at least 320 Indian nationals remain missing, while another 400 people are stranded on the Chinese side.
The ministry said India is ready to extend all possible assistance to Nepal in dealing with the situation. It also said 153 Indian nationals stranded on the Chinese side had safely crossed into Nepal.
Twenty-one Indians reached New Delhi after travelling from the affected areas to Kathmandu.
Gopisetty’s role at Infosys
Gopisetty heads Infosys Public Services, which focuses primarily on public-sector organisations in the United States and Canada.
According to his profile on the Infosys website, he advises public-sector organisations on strategy, technology, operations and transformation and oversees the company’s strategy and execution.
Before his current role, he served as Global Vice President at Infosys and headed its Business Applications and Digital Workspace Service.
He had earlier held senior positions at Accenture, BearingPoint, IBM, PwC and HCL.
As rescue and relief efforts continue in the flood-hit region, Infosys said it remains focused on gathering information about Gopisetty and supporting his family.
