New Delhi,: A 21-year-old woman who sustained injuries during the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protest in Delhi has been taken off ventilator support and is recovering steadily, according to a health bulletin issued by Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital.
The hospital said the woman is fully conscious, responding to doctors’ instructions and breathing on her own. MRI scans of her brain and spine were reported to be normal.
Hospital reports steady recovery
Doctors said the woman’s condition has shown consistent improvement since she was admitted on Monday following the clashes during the ‘Sansad Chalo’ march at Jantar Mantar.
She remains under close medical observation and is receiving the necessary treatment. Hospital sources said she is currently the only protester admitted to RML Hospital, while all other injured demonstrators have been discharged.
Protest turns violent
Thousands of protesters had gathered at Jantar Mantar demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over alleged irregularities in examinations, including the alleged NEET-UG 2026 paper leak.
Violence erupted when protesters attempted to march towards Parliament. Police used lathicharge and tear gas to disperse the crowd, leading to clashes in which both protesters and police personnel were injured.
According to sources, around 90 students were injured during the protest. Delhi Police, however, stated that more than 118 police personnel and around 60 protesters sustained injuries, while over 20 police vehicles were damaged.
Sources also said the injured woman collided with a barricade during the police action.
Protesters continue agitation
Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda visited RML Hospital and Lady Hardinge Hospital to enquire about the condition of the injured.
Meanwhile, CJP protesters have resumed their sit-in at Jantar Mantar, reiterating demands for the resignation of the Union Education Minister, ₹1 crore compensation for families of NEET aspirants who allegedly died by suicide following the paper leak, and withdrawal of FIRs registered against protesters.
CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke said the government should come to the protest site for talks, while government sources maintained they were willing to hold discussions if the protesters initiated the dialogue.
