The Ministry of Railways has launched the beta version of its redesigned IRCTC website, introducing a cleaner interface and faster booking process aimed at improving the online ticket reservation experience for millions of passengers across India.
The launch follows Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw’s announcement last month that the revamped platform would be ready by July 15. Passengers are now invited to explore the new website and share their feedback before its nationwide rollout.
New design focuses on speed and simplicity
The redesigned portal features a modern layout with fewer booking steps, making ticket reservations quicker and more convenient. The Railways has removed unnecessary captchas, pop-ups and distracting graphics to provide a smoother user experience.
One of the key upgrades allows passengers to view seat availability across all travel classes on a single screen, reducing the need for multiple searches. Saved passenger details have also been better integrated, enabling faster repeat bookings.
Feedback to shape final version
The Ministry of Railways said the beta phase will help identify areas for improvement before the official launch. Feedback received from users will be used to further refine the website in the coming weeks.
The redesign was inspired by suggestions from students of the Malaviya National Institute of Technology (MNIT), Jaipur, who shared ideas on improving the website’s design, functionality and overall user experience during an interaction with the Railway Minister.
Reservation system also being upgraded
Alongside the website revamp, the Railways is modernising its Passenger Reservation Engine, the core system that powers ticket bookings across multiple railway applications.
The upgraded reservation engine is expected to be launched soon and integrated with the new IRCTC website. Officials said the upgrade is being carried out without disrupting existing services, as the platform currently handles an average of 14.5 lakh ticket bookings every day.
