Police have registered a case of alleged abetment to suicide against three individuals, including two employees of an IT company, following the death of a 48-year-old staff member in Pimpri-Chinchwad.
The case was filed at Bhosari Police Station after a complaint was lodged by the deceased employee’s son. The victim, who worked at the company’s Hinjawadi office, was found dead at his residence on June 2.
According to police, the employee allegedly died by suicide. Investigators recovered a purported suicide note in which he named three individuals and detailed allegations of harassment.
Allegations of workplace humiliation
In the note, the deceased allegedly accused a friend of sending defamatory emails about him to the company. He also named two female colleagues, claiming they repeatedly humiliated him in front of other employees and assigned work outside his area of expertise.
The note further alleged that the colleagues criticised his performance, asked him to resign in front of co-workers and threatened to provide adverse feedback regarding his work.
Based on the complaint and the contents of the note, police registered a case under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deals with abetment of suicide.
Investigation underway
Police said no arrests have been made so far and that the matter remains under investigation.
The IT company issued a statement expressing condolences to the bereaved family and said it was examining the allegations made against its employees.
“The wellbeing of our employees is of utmost importance to us,” the company stated, adding that it remains committed to maintaining a respectful, supportive and inclusive workplace.
Meanwhile, the Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES) has reportedly written to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis seeking a detailed inquiry into the incident.
