A 21-year-old man accused of killing his father and dismembering the body allegedly over pressure to clear the NEET medical entrance examination was sent to judicial custody on Wednesday.
While being escorted to a local court under heavy security, the accused, Akshat Pratap Singh, told mediapersons, “Galti se ho gaya (It happened by mistake).” When asked how such an act could occur “by mistake”, he remained silent.
According to the Lucknow Police Commissionerate, the incident occurred in the early hours of February 20 at the family’s residence in Ashiyana’s Sector L.
Alleged dispute over exam pressure
Police said the accused allegedly shot his father, Manvendra Singh (50), with a licensed .315 bore rifle around 4.30 am following a dispute related to the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET).
On February 23, the accused had filed a missing person complaint at Ashiyana police station, claiming his father had disappeared. However, inconsistencies in his statements raised suspicion.
Officials stated that during sustained interrogation, he allegedly confessed to the crime.
Body dismembered, evidence recovered
According to investigators, the accused allegedly used knives and saws to sever the body parts in an attempt to destroy evidence. The torso was concealed in a plastic drum at the house, while the severed limbs were reportedly dumped near a canal in the Nadarganj area.
Police recovered the body parts, the licensed rifle, cartridges, and other materials allegedly linked to the crime. Forensic teams examined the residence and collected evidence.
A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Arms Act at Ashiyana police station. Further investigation is ongoing.
