More than a dozen students had to be taken to the hospital on Thursday during a self-defense event in the Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir because of an accident.

The official told the PTI that during the self-defense exercise, one of the students used pepper spray, which caused 13 students to pass out and require emergency medical attention.

The Government Girls Higher Secondary School in the Handwara neighborhood of the north Kashmir district was hosting a self-defense exercise. When the students used pepper spray, some of them experienced a reaction that caused them to lose consciousness. The students’ condition is now stable after the doctors treated them after the school staff brought them to the hospital.

Deputy Superintendent of Associate Hospital GMC Handwara, Dr Aijaz Ahmad, confirmed, “13 students were brought to the hospital and after treatment, their condition is now stable.”

“The students had a reaction to the spray, and that there was no need to worry. ” Mr. Ahmad added.
