Kannur: A Class 12 student from Kannur has been missing since August 9 after his father reportedly took away his mobile phone over concerns about his online gaming habit, prompting an intensified search by police and his family.

Shiva Surya, a student of Ramavilasam Higher Secondary School at Chokli, went missing from his home in Kariyad Puliyanambram on Saturday afternoon. His family subsequently approached the Chokli police and lodged a complaint.

The teenager’s disappearance has caused concern among his family, relatives and local residents, who have joined efforts to trace him.

Family finds note on study table

According to the family, a note purportedly written by Shiva Surya was later found on his study table.

The note reportedly stated that he was going to Kashi and intended to spend the rest of his life there.

However, police and the family have not confirmed whether the teenager actually travelled to Kashi. His present whereabouts remain unknown.

The contents of the note have become an important part of the investigation as authorities try to establish what happened after the student left home.

Police are examining available information and possible leads to determine whether he travelled to another location or may be staying somewhere closer to home.

Father concerned over online gaming

The family said Shiva Surya had developed a habit of playing online games and had reportedly lost money through gaming.

His father, A Jigeesh, subsequently took away the teenager’s mobile phone because of concerns about the impact of the gaming habit.

The family believes Shiva Surya went missing soon after the phone was taken away.

The circumstances surrounding the disappearance are being examined by police, who are attempting to determine the teenager’s movements after he left home.

The family has appealed for information that could help establish his whereabouts.

Police intensify search

The Chokli police have intensified efforts to trace the missing student.

Relatives and neighbours are also participating in the search, while the family continues to await information about his whereabouts.

At present, there is no confirmed information indicating that Shiva Surya travelled to Kashi, despite the reference to the city in the note reportedly found at his home.

Investigators are expected to examine all available leads and verify whether the teenager may have travelled to another town or city.

The search is being conducted with the priority of locating the student safely and reuniting him with his family.

Public representatives visit family

The disappearance has also drawn the attention of political and social leaders in the area.

Several public representatives have visited the family and expressed concern over the teenager’s disappearance.

BJP Kannur district president Biju Elakkuzhi, who met the family, urged the police to intensify the search and trace Shiva Surya at the earliest.

The involvement of local representatives has also highlighted the concern surrounding the missing student and the need for continued efforts to locate him.

Family awaits information

The family has so far received no confirmed information about Shiva Surya’s whereabouts.

With the teenager missing for several days, relatives and neighbours have continued to assist the police and the family in searching for possible leads.

The case also highlights concerns surrounding excessive online gaming among young people, particularly when financial losses and conflicts within families are involved. However, the exact circumstances that led to Shiva Surya leaving home remain unclear and are part of the ongoing investigation.

Authorities have not confirmed the authenticity or circumstances behind the note beyond the family’s account, nor have they established that the teenager travelled to Kashi.

The immediate priority remains tracing Shiva Surya and ensuring his safe return. Police are continuing their efforts to establish his movements and follow up on available information.
