A 15-year-old girl from Kanpur was allegedly subjected to inappropriate acts at a hotel in Jhansi by a man she had met through social media, police said. The accused, Suresh Singh (35), has been arrested.

Police said the man contacted the minor on Instagram and later asked her to meet him in Jhansi on December 28. The incident is alleged to have occurred at a hotel during this meeting.

Case registered under child protection laws

According to ACP Babupurwa Dileep Kumar Singh, the accused has been booked under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

The accused is a native of Fatehpur district and was residing in Jawahar Nagar in Kanpur at the time of his arrest.

Family informed, police action followed

Police said the girl did not immediately disclose the incident due to fear and distress. She later informed her family members, who approached the police on December 29.

Her statement was recorded following legal protocols, and supporting evidence was collected. The accused was arrested from his Kanpur residence on Wednesday.

Police stress online caution for minors

Police officials said the case highlights the risks associated with unsupervised online interactions involving minors. They urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant and to encourage open communication with children regarding online behaviour.

The investigation is ongoing.
