A 15-year-old boy has been detained by Kanpur Police after a fatal accident in October 2023, mirroring the recent Pune Porsche incident where two IT professionals lost their lives. The teenager, allegedly driving his father’s car, was involved in the tragic collision that claimed two lives, and more recently, injured four others in Barra area.
The accused, hailing from a prominent family, is under scrutiny, with reports suggesting an inquiry into alleged police inaction. Additional Commissioner of Police, Harish Chandra, disclosed a departmental investigation into delays in filing charges against the teenager, who had reportedly been involved in two hit-and-run incidents.
Detailing the Kanpur incident, Chandra stated, “On October 27, 2023, a hit-and-run case was registered, resulting in the loss of two lives. Investigation revealed the involvement of a minor, who was subsequently detained and presented before the Juvenile Justice Board on May 21 this year. He has since been committed to a juvenile correctional centre.”
Meanwhile, in the Pune case, authorities have questioned the accused teenager’s relatives, driver, and friend to piece together the events leading to the tragedy. Forensic examination of the Porsche, allegedly driven by the teenager, has also been conducted.
Following public outcry over his swift bail, the teenager in the Pune case has been placed in an observation home by the Juvenile Justice Board. Additionally, his father has been arrested, and two bar owners implicated for serving alcohol to the underage driver.
