Jaipur: Kerala’s 19-year-old Kaziah Liz Mejo has been crowned Miss Universe India 2026, but it was her thoughtful final answer on silence, confidence and belonging that has captured widespread attention online.
The grand finale was held at Zee Studios in Jaipur on August 23, where Kaziah faced a question that asked her to describe the sound of silence in her life.
‘Silence is when you feel at home’
Asked by Rajiv K. Shrivastava, founder of Act Now and Director of Social Projects at the Glamanand Group, to describe the sound of silence, Kaziah connected the idea to the moments before she steps onto a stage.
She said the calm she experiences just before performing or appearing on stage represents silence for her. A trained classical dancer and actor, Kaziah said she has always felt at home under the spotlight.
She described silence as the moment when the heart allows a person to breathe deeply, the pulse settles and there is a sense of belonging.
Her response ended with a powerful declaration: “And that’s exactly where I’m standing today, India.”
Beauty, courage and conviction
Kaziah also spoke about what true beauty means to her. She described it as conviction and courage, particularly the ability to rise again after setbacks.
For her, confidence means having the courage to turn fear, failure and moments of weakness into strength.
She also spoke about leading with grace, trusting intuition and leaving people and places better than they were found.
A closely tested winner
According to Miss Universe India, finalists were given 20 questions and 90 minutes to write their answers this year.
Kaziah’s winning response has since gone viral, giving audiences a glimpse into the perspective behind the crown.
The 19-year-old has also made her acting debut in the Malayalam film Shylock, adding to an emerging career that now includes the national pageant title.
