New Delhi: Former Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal and four members of his family have received notices from the Delhi Chief Electoral Officer’s office as part of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
Five members of Kejriwal family served notices
The notices were issued under the “Unmapped with Last SIR” category, which covers electors whose records could not be mapped with the previous SIR exercise.
Besides Kejriwal, notices have been issued to his wife Sunita Kejriwal, father Gobind Ram Kejriwal, mother Gita Devi and 25-year-old son Pulkit Kejriwal. The five are among 110 electors served notices in a specific part of Assembly Constituency 40, covering the New Delhi constituency.
The notices come amid a wider verification exercise in Delhi following publication of the draft electoral roll on August 31. The Delhi CEO’s office has said that names not appearing in the draft roll do not automatically indicate ineligibility, with individual cases to be examined through the prescribed verification process.
AAP questions the notices
The development drew a sharp response from the AAP, which questioned how Kejriwal and members of his family could have been categorised as unmapped during the revision process. The party has also raised broader concerns over changes to Delhi’s electoral rolls.
According to election officials, notices have been issued to a large number of electors under categories including “No Mapping” and “Logical Discrepancies” as part of the SIR exercise.
The issue comes as the Supreme Court is scheduled to hear a petition on September 22 concerning transparency in Delhi’s SIR process, including the disclosure of reasons for notices issued to voters
