Kejriwal Reflects on AAP’s Haryana Assembly Election Performance

Election

New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convenor Arvind Kejriwal responded to the party’s disappointing results in the Haryana assembly elections, where AAP failed to secure any seats. The former Delhi chief minister acknowledged the challenges ahead and stressed the need for vigilance and dedication as elections approach.

In his statement, Kejriwal highlighted the critical lesson from the recent election: the importance of avoiding overconfidence. “Elections are approaching. They should not be taken lightly. The biggest lesson from today’s election is to never be overconfident. Every election, every seat is tough. We need to work hard, and there should be no infighting,” he stated. This reflects a call for introspection within the party, urging members to remain united and focused on their goals.

Kejriwal underscored the significant role party members will play, especially given AAP’s position within the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). “The public expects basic things, like cleanliness. We need to ensure that cleanliness is maintained in our respective areas. If this is done, we will surely win the elections. Our main goal should be to win the elections,” he added, reinforcing the need for grassroots-level engagement and accountability.

In the recent Haryana assembly elections, AAP’s performance was underwhelming, with the party recording a mere 1.73% vote share and failing to win any seats. In contrast, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerged victorious in two constituencies—Kharkhauda and Jind—while leading in 46 others, positioning itself to form the government for a third consecutive term. The Congress party, which had hoped to capitalise on the BJP’s anti-incumbency sentiment, also managed to secure two seats and is currently leading in 35.

The AAP’s pre-election alliance talks with the Congress fell through, which may have impacted its overall performance in the state. During the campaign, Kejriwal had asserted that no government in Haryana would be formed without the support of AAP, positioning the party as a pivotal player in state politics.

Despite the setbacks, Kejriwal remains optimistic about the party’s future. He reiterated AAP’s commitment to key issues such as electricity, water, education, and healthcare in Haryana. “Whatever the result of Haryana, the key to power will be in the hands of Arvind Kejriwal. Our priority is to ensure essential services like electricity and water. Additionally, we aim to provide women with ₹1000 per month and ensure free electricity for residents,” he stated during a rally in Charkhi Dadri.

This vision aligns with AAP’s broader objectives of providing accessible governance and welfare to citizens, as seen in their initiatives in Delhi. As the party prepares for future elections, Kejriwal’s emphasis on hard work and unity will be crucial in regaining the trust of voters.

Kejriwal’s reflections on the Haryana election results serve as both a cautionary reminder and a rallying call for AAP members. As they navigate the aftermath of this election, the focus will be on strengthening their grassroots efforts and enhancing community engagement, essential components for future electoral success.
