The unexpected death of Jinesh P Sukumaran, a 38-year-old caregiver from Sultan Bathery, Wayanad, has left his family in shock and seeking clarity. Jinesh was found hanging in a residence in Jerusalem on Friday, where he had been working for the past month as a caregiver to a bedridden elderly man.
Tragically, the man’s 80-year-old wife was also found dead in the same house, with multiple stab wounds. The circumstances surrounding the deaths remain unclear, and conflicting reports have fueled speculation.
“There’s a lot of confusion,” said Jinesh’s sister, Jinitha. “We’ve been getting updates from fellow Malayalis in Israel, but the truth is still unclear. Some say valuables from the house are missing, while others claim the elderly patient, despite being bedridden, testified that intruders attacked them.”
The family is torn between the possibilities of a murder-suicide or an external attack. Jinesh, who had previously worked as a medical representative in Sultan Bathery, reportedly shared concerns about work stress after taking up the caregiving job in Israel just a month ago.
Their mother, also a caregiver abroad, has faced similar anxieties following news of incidents involving migrant workers. Now, with an official investigation underway in Israel, the family awaits more information, including when Jinesh’s body will be repatriated.
