Tiruchy: A meticulously orchestrated robbery on Saturday morning shook a veteran Thrissur jeweller returning from Coimbatore. A five-member gang intercepted Jaison Jacob, 55, and his young assistant Vishnu, as they traveled along the Coimbatore–Palakkad highway with 1.25 kg of gold bars they had just purchased in Chennai.
At roughly 7 a.m. near Ettimadai, the assailants, arriving in a truck, deliberately blocked their luxury car. Armed with weapons, they smashed the vehicle’s window, seized the gold biscuits, and forced both men from the car. The robbers also fled in the vehicle, leaving the victims stranded on the roadside.
The stolen gold is estimated to be worth around ₹1.3 crore. KG Chavadi police swiftly acted on the complaint, deploying five dedicated teams and reviewing CCTV footage to track down the culprits. Speaking to the press, SP K. Karthikeyan noted the thieves spoke Malayalam and appeared to have detailed inside information about the shipment.
Authorities are analyzing the visuals and investigating leads to apprehend the masterminds behind what appears to be a highly coordinated operation.
