THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The animal husbandry department has launched a mobile veterinary surgery unit to bring expert surgical care closer to pet owners and animal lovers in the district. The initiative is backed by a dedicated team of two surgeons and attendants, and began operations by conducting three successful surgeries at the Attingal government veterinary hospital.
To avail of the service, pet owners can simply dial 1962. Once registered, the surgical team will be dispatched to the nearest veterinary hospital based on the caller’s location. The service is open to both pet owners and animal welfare volunteers.
The inaugural surgeries were performed by Chief Veterinary Officer Dr K C Prasad, Dr Ammu Stephenola, and Dr Anu. The unit is headquartered at the veterinary office in Pattom, and the district-wide operations will be coordinated from there.
District Veterinary Officer Dr D Shinekumar assured that the service will soon be available across all major centres, making critical veterinary care more accessible and responsive.
