A chilling wave of domestic abuse-related deaths is shaking Kerala, as three young women—Faseela, Athulya, and Vipanchika Maniyan—have allegedly died by suicide following prolonged violence, harassment, and dowry abuse.
In Thrissur, 23-year-old Faseela, pregnant with her second child, was found hanging at her husband’s home in Vellangular on July 29. A final WhatsApp message to her mother revealed shocking details: she had been kicked in the stomach, her hand broken, and subjected to constant verbal abuse by her husband Naufal and mother-in-law Ramla. She chillingly wrote, “I am going to die, or they will kill me.” Both accused are now in judicial custody, booked under abetment to suicide.
Meanwhile, in a separate case from the UAE, 29-year-old Athulya from Kollam was found dead in her apartment on July 21. Her family alleges murder, citing years of physical abuse over dowry since her 2014 marriage. Her husband reportedly confessed to beating her, claiming it was “normal.”
In another harrowing incident, Vipanchika Maniyan (32) and her infant daughter were found dead in Sharjah on July 8. A suicide note exposed her suffering under dowry harassment and sexual abuse. She described brutal assaults and pleaded, “Don’t spare them.” Kerala Police have booked her husband Nidheesh, his sister, and father.
These tragic deaths reflect a disturbing pattern of unchecked marital violence, leaving families devastated and raising urgent calls for stronger protection and enforcement against domestic abuse and dowry crimes.
