Kochi: In Kollam district of Kerala, a distressing incident unfolded as a 44-year-old US national became a victim of gang rape. The incident occurred around 10.30 am on Monday, but it came to light after the survivor, who had arrived in India on July 22 and was supposed to leave on August 5, lodged a complaint with Karunagappally police on Tuesday.
As per the survivor’s account to the police, she was sitting near Mata Amritanandamayi Math by the beach when the accused approached her and offered her alcohol. After consuming the drink, she lost consciousness. The accused then took her to an abandoned building where they subjected her to rape.
The arrested individuals, Jayan (38) and Nikhil (28), residents of Cheriyazheekal near Karunagapally, are now facing charges of gangrape. Shockingly, they already had previous cases against them under section 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide).
The survivor received medical attention, and her statement was recorded before the magistrate as part of the investigation. This incident has raised concerns about safety and the need for vigilant efforts to combat such crimes.
