In a significant operation, Kolar police have successfully apprehended three individuals linked to a series of robberies targeting single women in rural areas, as well as thefts in schools. The suspects—Narendra alias Jutte (23), Chandan S alias Thoota (19), and Anil alias Koli (28)—were arrested following investigations into multiple criminal activities.
The accused were known to prey on unsuspecting women, particularly those grazing cattle in village lands. Reports indicate that they employed knives and threats to intimidate their victims. A disturbing tactic involved throwing car powder into the victims’ eyes before stealing valuable items, primarily gold chains. District Superintendent of Police Nikhil B characterised these incidents as more than ordinary theft, emphasising the calculated nature of their crimes.
Investigations revealed the trio’s involvement in at least seven documented cases, which include:
- Theft at Chinmaya Grameen Vidyalaya, Chokkahalli
- Robbery near Danahalli lake
- Robbery near Khajikallahalli village
- Extortion near Khajikallahalli gate
- Robbery near Chadumanahalli village
- Theft near Government College for Girls, Kolar Nagar
- Robbery reported at Chintamani Nagar police station
The gang’s activities had instilled fear among local residents, especially single women in the rural communities.
In addition to the primary suspects, another individual, Manoj alias Salga (23), was found to be complicit in the robbery and is currently in judicial custody. Notably, Anil has a prior murder case registered against him at Nandagudi police station and was out on bail at the time of his arrest.
The Kolar police were able to recover stolen goods valued at approximately ₹14.5 lakh. This haul included ₹12 lakh in cash stolen from Chinmaya School, two two-wheelers—a NS Pulsar bike and a Honda Dio—and four gold chains valued at ₹7.88 lakh.
District Superintendent of Police Nikhil B praised Circle Inspector Lokesh and his team for their exemplary work in solving the case. The operation not only underscores the effectiveness of local law enforcement but also highlights the importance of community vigilance in preventing such crimes.
The arrests have brought a sense of relief to the local community, which has been on high alert due to the recent spate of robberies. Local authorities are urging residents, especially women, to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the police immediately.
As the investigation continues, the Kolar police are committed to ensuring the safety and security of the community, reinforcing their determination to combat crime and protect vulnerable individuals from such heinous acts.
