A 43-year-old labourer died after allegedly slipping and falling from a second-floor flat in east Delhi’s Mandawali area. The incident occurred on Sunday, and the man succumbed to his injuries during treatment on Monday, police officials said.
Fall during repair work at residential apartment
The deceased has been identified as Ganesh Kumar (43), a resident of Ambedkar Nagar district. According to the police, Ganesh had come to Delhi for a one-day plaster of Paris (POP) work assignment at Tarang Apartment in Mandawali.
A senior police officer said Ganesh was working on the balcony of a second-floor flat when he allegedly lost balance, slipped, and fell from the height. Residents and coworkers immediately alerted the authorities.
Shifted between hospitals as condition worsened
Police said Ganesh was first taken to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital for emergency treatment. As his condition deteriorated, he was later shifted to Makkar Hospital for advanced medical care.
Despite sustained efforts by doctors, his injuries proved fatal, and he died on January 26.
No foul play suspected, police say
Following the incident, a police team reached the spot and conducted a detailed inquiry. Officials said no signs of foul play were found during the preliminary investigation. A post-mortem examination was conducted to ascertain the exact cause of death.
After completion of all legal formalities, the body was handed over to the family members.
Renewed focus on worker safety
The incident has once again highlighted concerns around safety measures for daily-wage labourers and construction workers, especially those engaged in short-term and informal jobs. Police said further preventive measures and safety awareness remain crucial to avoid such tragic accidents.
