Patna: Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) president Lalu Prasad will be taken to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, on Saturday for further medical treatment after he experienced fluctuations in his blood pressure on Friday evening. The veteran politician was briefly admitted to the Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS) in Patna, where doctors stabilised his condition before discharging him.
His eldest daughter and RJD MP Misa Bharti confirmed that the former Bihar chief minister is currently stable and will travel to Delhi for specialised treatment at AIIMS, where he has been undergoing regular medical care for several years.
Admitted after blood pressure fluctuations
Lalu Prasad was rushed to IGIMS after his blood pressure fluctuated on Friday evening, prompting doctors to conduct a detailed medical examination.
Speaking to reporters, Misa Bharti said the RJD supremo was admitted to the hospital as a precautionary measure. After undergoing medical evaluation and treatment, his condition improved and doctors discharged him.
She said the medical team advised him to remain under observation at home before travelling to New Delhi for further treatment.
According to Bharti, Lalu Prasad’s health is stable, and he will continue receiving specialised care at AIIMS, where he has been treated for multiple health issues in recent years.
AIIMS Delhi to continue specialised treatment
Lalu Prasad has been under the care of specialists at AIIMS, New Delhi, for several years due to various age-related and chronic health conditions.
The decision to shift him to the national capital follows medical advice to ensure continuity of treatment and close monitoring by his healthcare team.
Family members said the transfer is part of his ongoing treatment plan and not an emergency referral, as his condition had stabilised before his discharge from IGIMS.
The veteran leader is expected to undergo further evaluation after reaching AIIMS.
Misa Bharti raises civic concerns
While interacting with the media, Misa Bharti also highlighted civic issues in Kautilya Nagar, where the RJD supremo and former chief minister Rabri Devi recently shifted to their private residence.
She said sanitation remains a major concern in the locality and expressed hope that the issue would receive attention.
Bharti remarked that although the problem affects residents, raising the issue publicly often leads to unnecessary interpretations.
Her comments came shortly after the family relocated from the government bungalow at 10 Circular Road, which had served as the residence of the former chief ministers for nearly two decades.
The bungalow has since been allotted to Bihar’s Animal Husbandry, Fisheries and Dairy Resources Minister Nand Kishore Ram.
Long medical history
Lalu Prasad has been battling multiple health issues over the past several years and has undergone treatment at various hospitals in India and abroad.
One of the most significant milestones in his medical journey came in December 2022, when he successfully underwent a kidney transplant surgery in Singapore.
