A 23-year-old youth from Pune was rescued by a highway safety patrol team after he allegedly attempted to end his life while live-streaming on Instagram on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway.
Alert from friend triggers swift action
The youth, identified as Sanjay Dandavate, was driving an SUV on the Pune-bound carriageway when one of his friends alerted Mumbai Police via the emergency helpline 112 after noticing his alarming live-stream.
Acting on the information, highway safety patrol (HSP) personnel quickly mobilised and tracked his movement along the Borghat stretch.
Patrol team intercepts vehicle
Under the guidance of an assistant police inspector, the patrol team positioned themselves strategically near the Amrutanjan bridge. Officers waited for over an hour during the night to intercept the vehicle safely.
The SUV was eventually stopped, and Dandavate was taken into custody before he could harm himself.
