A man lost his life on Friday after a container truck lost balance and crashed into his house on National Highway-48 in Gujarat’s Valsad district, police said. The victim was about to sit down for lunch when the accident occurred.

The incident took place in the Pardi area near the Mamlatdar office. According to preliminary findings, the container truck overturned after losing control while attempting to overtake another vehicle. A car’s sudden movement is believed to have contributed to the mishap. The entire sequence was captured on CCTV cameras installed in the area.

CCTV footage captures terrifying moments

In one of the CCTV clips, the container truck is seen overturning and veering off the highway before crashing into a residential structure located along the roadside. Another clip from inside an adjacent room shows the victim going about routine chores around 1 pm.

Moments later, the sound of the approaching truck is heard. The man moves away from the window just as the container ploughs into the house, crushing part of the structure. He was killed on the spot due to the impact.

Police rush to spot, rescue operations launched

Following the accident, police from Pardi rushed to the scene and initiated an investigation. Rescue and clearance operations were carried out using a crane to remove the overturned container from the damaged house.

The accident caused a major traffic disruption on the National Highway 48, leading to long queues on the Mumbai–Ahmedabad stretch. Commuters faced significant delays until partial traffic movement was restored.

Safety concerns along busy highway stretch

The incident has once again raised concerns over heavy vehicle movement along densely populated highway corridors, where residential houses are located dangerously close to fast-moving traffic.

Police said further investigation is underway to determine responsibility and whether any traffic violations led to the fatal accident.
