An investigation has been launched following accusations by a Dalit sanitary worker who claimed he was assaulted by police officers in Khajuraho town, Madhya Pradesh. The incident allegedly occurred after the worker, Rohit Valmiki, overtook official vehicles belonging to police and electricity departments on his motorcycle on July 18.

In his complaint filed on July 20, Valmiki alleged that the police accused him of reckless driving and verbally abused him. According to his brother, Valmiki was subsequently taken to a police station where he was physically assaulted.

Superintendent of Police Agam Jain stated that the Sub Divisional Officer of Police (SDOP) is conducting an investigation into the matter. “Statements from all parties involved are being recorded. Strict action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation,” Jain assured reporters.
