Monalisa, the woman who went viral during the Maha Kumbh for her striking looks, is set to make her Bollywood debut in The Diary of Manipur, directed by Sanoj Mishra. She will star opposite Amit Rao, the brother of actor Rajkummar Rao, who makes his debut in the film.
Monalisa, originally named Moni Bhonsle, gained widespread attention during the Maha Kumbh festival but soon faced harassment from selfie-seekers, which led her family to leave Prayagraj. Sanoj Mishra, impressed by her innocence and natural beauty, tracked her down in Maheshwar, Madhya Pradesh, where he met her family and discussed the film. He is now focused on shaping her career, starting with a workshop in Indore before moving to Mumbai.
Mishra shared his excitement for the project, saying, “I was impressed with her simplicity, and now I have more responsibility to present her and help build her career.” The film, which explores love and violence, will begin shooting in London with Amit Rao for a week before moving to Manipur in April for the remainder of the shoot.
Monalisa expressed her happiness about the opportunity, saying in a video, “I am very happy. I will work hard, and only through hard work will I progress.”
Mishra emphasized that Monalisa’s journey from viral fame to acting stardom shows how simplicity and authenticity can stand out in today’s world of social media.
