Mumbai: A devastating fire erupted in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, Maharashtra, resulting in the death of seven individuals, officials reported today. The deceased include three women, two men, and two children.

Originating in a local tailoring shop at approximately 4 am, the fire quickly spread, causing alarm among the residents. Firefighting teams were dispatched promptly and succeeded in dousing the flames; however, seven lives were lost to the incident by that time.

The Police Commissioner of Sambhaji Nagar, Manoj Lohiya, identified the initial blaze location as Alam Tailors. The fire was confined to the lower levels of the structure, but it is believed the victims, residing above the shop, might have died due to inhaling toxic smoke.

The investigation into the fire’s cause is underway, and autopsies for the deceased have been scheduled to determine the exact cause of death.
