A man from Greater Noida was arrested on Sunday after a shocking video surfaced, showing him dragging a dog tied to his auto for several meters. The incident, captured by a bystander, quickly went viral, sparking outrage from animal rights activists and dog lovers across the country.
The accused, identified as Nitin from Dadha village in the Kasna area, was booked under animal cruelty charges. Police officials confirmed his arrest after the video was shared widely on social media. According to Kasna Police Station in-charge Dharmendra Shukla, Nitin claimed that the dog had fallen out of the auto, and he was unaware of it. However, authorities dismissed his explanation and proceeded with legal action.
“The dog is in a stable condition and recovering well,” Shukla added. The video, which showed the dog struggling while being dragged along the road, led to widespread calls for stricter laws and punishments against animal cruelty.
Notably, Anuradha Mishra, a Noida-based animal activist, expressed concerns over the rising number of cruelty cases and urged authorities to enforce severe penalties for offenders to prevent such incidents in the future.
This case highlights the urgent need for stronger measures to protect animals from abuse and negligence.
