Mumbai: A 25-year-old man was apprehended by Mumbai Police on Monday for reportedly assaulting cabin crew members aboard an Air India Express flight bound for Bahrain and attempting to open the aircraft’s door. According to an official statement, Abdul Musavir Nadukandee was taken into custody following the flight’s emergency landing at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) in Mumbai on Saturday.
Nadukandee, hailing from Kerala, allegedly became disruptive after waking up as the flight departed from Kozhikode. He purportedly proceeded to the rear of the aircraft, where he assaulted cabin crew members and made an attempt to open the aircraft door.
Subsequently, Nadukandee engaged in verbal abuse and physical assault towards fellow passengers after being escorted back to his seat by crew members. He also issued threats to open the emergency door, prompting the pilot to decide on an emergency landing at CSMIA for security reasons.
The accused faces charges under sections 336, 504, 506, and 323 of the Indian Penal Code, along with relevant provisions of the Aircraft Act.
