A 32-year-old man from Haryana’s Sonipat district has died after allegedly being brutally assaulted by his neighbours following a dispute over a mobile phone, police said.

Dispute over phone turns violent

The deceased, identified as Kamaljeet, was a resident of Panchi Jatan village in Ganaur. According to police, the incident occurred on March 24 when he went to a neighbour’s house to collect his mobile phone, which had been left there for charging.

An argument reportedly broke out after the accused allegedly refused to return the phone.

Alleged assault and critical injuries

Based on a complaint filed by his father, Jaipal, the accused—identified as Ramdas, Bhagwan Das and Sonu—allegedly tied Kamaljeet to a cot and assaulted him using sticks and blunt objects.

He sustained severe injuries and was initially taken to a community health centre in Ganaur before being referred to BPS Medical College in Khanpur for further treatment.

Death after prolonged treatment

Kamaljeet remained under treatment for nearly 12 days before succumbing to his injuries on April 6.

Police said the family initially did not pursue legal action as the accused were neighbours, but filed a complaint after his condition worsened and eventually led to his death.

Case registered, accused absconding

A murder case has been registered under relevant provisions of law, and police have launched a search operation to apprehend the accused, who are currently on the run.

Officials added that preliminary investigation suggests both parties may have been under the influence of intoxicants at the time of the incident.

Investigation continues

Police said the post-mortem report is awaited and further action will be taken based on its findings.

The incident has raised concerns over escalating violence in personal disputes and the need for timely intervention to prevent such tragedies.
