A 39-year-old man attempting to sneak ganja into Salem Central Prison was caught red-handed by prison staff on Monday, July 7, 2025.

L. Duraisamy, a resident of Ambal Yeri Road in Dadagapatti, had come to visit his relative Santhakumar (31), a life convict lodged in the prison. During the mandatory security check, prison officials discovered 10 grams of ganja cleverly concealed inside a toothpaste container in his bag.

Duraisamy was immediately detained by prison authorities and handed over to Hasthampatti police. A case was registered under Sections 8(C) and 20(b)(ii)(A) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. He was arrested and later released on bail.

Authorities are investigating whether this was an isolated incident or part of a larger smuggling attempt into the prison.
