A shocking incident at Agora City Centre in Vadodara’s Sama area has triggered widespread concern after CCTV footage captured a 35-year-old man hanging from the mall’s upper level before falling to his death.
The deceased has been identified as Hitendra Parmar, a resident of Navi Nagari and a Home Guard attached to Sama Police Station.
What the CCTV shows
Visuals show Hitendra clinging to the exterior wall of the second floor while people below shout in alarm. One individual is seen holding his hand in an apparent rescue attempt. After nearly three minutes, his grip loosens and he falls to the ground. He was declared dead at the scene and later shifted to S.S.G. Hospital for post-mortem examination.
Witnesses reported that more than 15 people had gathered in the parking area during the incident but were unable to intervene.
Police and family versions differ
Police officials stated that preliminary findings suggest Hitendra may have entered the premises with the intention of theft. According to the police, he appeared frightened after security staff noticed movement and attempted to escape, during which he allegedly slipped.
DCP Andrew Macwan said CCTV footage shows security personnel trying to catch him as he attempted to climb down.
However, the family has strongly denied the theft allegation. Hitendra’s brother, Ajitsinh, claimed he had gone to the mall to collect pending wages from a contractor. He alleged that the footage shows a bouncer holding Hitendra’s hand before letting go.
The family has demanded a thorough and impartial investigation, stating that he leaves behind young children.
Police have assured that all angles, including the allegations raised by the family, will be examined to determine the exact circumstances leading to the fatal fall.
