A 28-year-old man allegedly died by suicide while on a video call with his girlfriend, in a deeply distressing incident that has shocked the local community, police said.
The deceased, identified as Nikhil, was a resident of Jawahar Colony. According to police, the incident occurred on Sunday evening around 5 pm while he was speaking to his girlfriend on WhatsApp.
Incident unfolded during video call
Authorities said the woman initially believed it was a routine conversation, but the situation quickly escalated. Nikhil allegedly hanged himself while still connected on the video call, with the woman witnessing the incident in real time.
In panic, she immediately contacted his friends and alerted them to the situation.
Friends rushed but could not save him
Nikhil’s friends rushed to his residence, but by the time they reached, he was found unresponsive. Police confirmed that he was alone at home during the incident.
Officials stated that his father had passed away a few years ago, and his mother was away in Ujjain at the time.
Relationship stress under investigation
Police said Nikhil had been in a relationship with the woman for about five years, and discussions about marriage had taken place between both families. However, recent disagreements, particularly over marriage, may have caused emotional distress.
Authorities are investigating all aspects of the case to determine the circumstances leading to the incident.
Call for mental health awareness
The incident has once again highlighted the importance of mental health awareness and timely support during emotional distress. Experts stress the need for open conversations, counselling, and early intervention in times of personal crisis.
Police have sent the body for post-mortem examination, and further investigation is underway.
