Thrissur: A heartbreaking tragedy struck a Velur native when Issac Paul Olakkengil, 29, passed away while scuba diving at Jumeirah Beach in Dubai. Preliminary reports suggest that Issac suffered a fatal heart attack triggered by oxygen deprivation during the dive.
Issac’s wife Reshma and his brother Ivan were accompanying him at the time. Ivan sustained injuries in the incident and is currently receiving medical care at a local hospital.
Prior to the scuba session, all three had undergone training in a swimming pool to prepare for the activity. Issac, the son of Paul and Sheeja from Naduvilangadi, was employed in the engineering department of a Dubai-based company. His wife Reshma is also an engineer by profession.
The family had chosen Jumeirah Beach for the scuba diving experience as part of their Bakrid holiday celebrations. The deceased’s body is presently held at the mortuary in Dubai and arrangements are underway to repatriate him to India shortly.
This tragic event has deeply saddened the local community, as relatives and friends mourn the loss of a young professional with a promising future.
